David McCullough gave what has been suggested is the provocative commencement address of the year, in Wellesley, Massachusetts for Wellesley High School graduates.

The most often quoted line from the speech is “you are not special.” I ask the question of this idea and the larger subtext of the address, is this Jewish?

The answer is sort-of. Actually, there is a more eloquent answer, so please click the accompanying video to consider for yourself. By the way, a second most provocative speech was given by Michael Lewis, also in the past month, to Princeton University graduates.

For the Jewish response to that address, come to Shabbat Fusion June 22 at 6:30pm.

Shabbat Shalom!
