Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration in Toronto has become a special event in the life of our city since the arrival of Consul General Amir Gissin.

It is now a permanent feature to see the Israeli flag rise with pride and friendship over the Ontario Parliament building at Queen’s Park.

Parliament members of all Parties gather outside in solidarity and devoted friendship to our Beloved State of Israel.

I have witnessed this ceremony now for a few years and with pride and deep emotions I am happy to share with you, my dear congregants, the joy and respect I experienced downtown on Israel’s sixty fourth birthday.

Parliament members of all the parties, Jewish organizations, Jewish day school students and Christian friends of Israel all stood in solidarity singing our national anthems. Amir Gissin, Consul General of Israel’s farewell address was emotional and heartwarming as he bid Shalom to the city of Toronto and his many friends.

At night I attended the traditional Israeli Birthday party with a wide representation of the Toronto Jewish community. To our surprise Amir Gissin is not only a gentle soul but a superb musician.

He joined the crowd and delighted us with his musical talent.

Enjoy the short video, and Happy Birthday to our Israel.

Beny
