As we anticipate the Memorial Tribute Concert in honour of Srul Irving Glick z’l with great excitement, I am thrilled to share with you a work in progress.
Sunday April 22, 2012 at 8 pm three choirs will gather in our beautiful sanctuary to remember and celebrate the music of our beloved Srul Irving Glick z’l. It is ten years since we lost one of the great Jewish composers of our times.
Srul Glick z’l was a dear friend, mentor and teacher to many musicians and a spiritual musical mentor to the common Jew. Srul instilled in his music the element of the divine. His heart and soul sang and radiated music with every breath and every moment of his life. I was privileged to be among his close friends and I learned much from him of Jewish passion for our music by often being in close proximity to his breadth of music making. I have gathered all our musical forces for this concert. I have invited The Beth Tikvah Choir which he so much cherished and gave his soul to, our own Temple Singers and our Professional dedicated singers who enhance our worship services week in and week out, and my Lachan Jewish Chamber Choir. Together we will perform many of Glick’s favorite liturgical and secular compositions.
The video segment shows the three choirs rehearsing for this grand performance. I have managed to rehearse all three choirs separately but the final rehearsals will no doubt bring the best out in musical artistic quality that we all can be proud of.
Please put this date on your calendar and join us for this momentous musical experience.
With warm and hearty wishes for a sweet and happy Pesach.
