Few think of rabbis as revolutionaries, but the rabbis of the Talmudic Era surely were. Deliberately ignoring the ruins of the destroyed Jerusalem Temple over their shoulder, the rabbis looked instead both backward and forward, transforming a ruined Judaism into something virtually totally new: portable, intellectually focused, doing mitzvot rather than offering sacrifices.
The Mishnah, the animating book of the Talmud, was their vehicle. Come and learn mishnayot.
