In Fourth, moscowitz

Renee and Naim

On June 1 and 2 of 1941, a farhud broke out against the Jews of Baghdad. Meaning pogrom or “violent dispossession,” a farhud puts life and property in peril, as laws go by the wayside. The rampaging and beatings resulted in the deaths of some 175 Jews and the injuring of another thousand. Jewish owned shops were burned down and a synagogue destroyed in that once civilized city.
