This is a time of turmoil for Israel, externally and internally. We will discuss different thinkers of Zionism: Theodor Herzl, Ber Borochov, Zeev Jabotinsky and Ahad Ha’am. We will look at Yeshayahu Leibovitz, a critic of Israeli realities and anti-Zionists, Franz Rosenzweig and Moshe Menuhin. We will raise questions about Israel’s direction with the new Nation-State Law, the ban on gays using surrogates to have children and the increasing power of the Chief Rabbinate. What is the impact of all this on liberal, religious Jews in the Diaspora?
