Mazon is Hebrew for food, nourishment and/or sustenance. MAZON Canada is the national Jewish response to hunger. It raises funds primarily from within the Jewish community and distributes those funds, non-denominationally, to Canadian organizations battling hunger on the front lines. Based on the tradition of tikkun olam (repairing the world), MAZON Canada strives to link public awareness about the issue of poverty and hunger with the mitzvah of tzedakah (charity).
At Holy Blossom Temple, our MAZON/Hunger Committee is a sub-committee of our Gemilut Chasadim Committee. Working with MAZON Canada, we sponsor food drives at holiday times, and link Holy Blossom members to the hungry in the community.
